Moys Mission

MOY'S MISSION

In praise to God and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life, the family of Moy Langhorst, motivated by the Holy Spirit has established the PFC Moisés Albert Langhorst Mission Fund.

Moy Langhorst a life long member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Moose Lake Minnesota enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps soon after his graduation from high school. Moy believed that by becoming a Marine that he could serve both his God and country. On April 6, 2004 Moy’s squad of Marine infantrymen were attacked in Ar Ramadi, Iraq. Moy and another Marine were killed in action with several others wounded. Moy’s purpose for going to Iraq was to bring peace and freedom to the Iraqi people. Faithful to the very end, Moy experienced nineteen years of the Peace and freedom found only in Jesus Christ. Moy desired this same Peace for the people of the Middle East and the sacrifice of his earthly life has made it financially possible for him/us to continue his mission.

Funds generated shall be disbursed annually by the LCMS Foundation to The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Board for Mission Service, St. Louis, Missouri, to be used for scholarships for persons who are (1) students in at least the third year of undergraduate study or any level of graduate study at any college, university, or seminary, any current LCMS missionary or U.S. military chaplaincies; (2) studying foreign or domestic mission outreach work; and (3) demonstrate financial need. Preference shall be given to students who have served in the military, specifically the U.S. Marine Corps, students who were formerly of the Islamic faith, students of Middle Eastern descent, and students that can speak Arabic. To date the endowment fund has distributed $15,211.00 to 9 recipients. Scholarship Recipients

2005
Andrew, a student at Concordia University, St. Paul, MN in the Director of Christian Outreach program who did a two- year internship in Kenya, Africa, among an animistic/Muslim tribal people called the Samburu.

2006
Scott, a missionary pastor with LCMS World Mission who began his doctoral program in Islamic studies at Concordia Seminary and Washington University.

Hicham, a missionary for POBLO (People of the Book Lutheran Outreach) Chicago, IL who is studying at Concordia Seminary at Fort Wayne, IN to become a LCMS pastor.

2007
Rev. Asif, a member of the Lutheran Church in Pakistan, and a vice principal of Lutheran Training Institute Pakistan who enrolled in the MACO (Master of Arts in Christian Outreach) program at Concordia, St. Paul, MN.

Mr. Gui, a church planter among Africans in Milwaukee, WI who is taking courses in the Ethnic Immigrant Insitute of Theology at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO.

Michael, a graduate of Concordia, Portland, OR who intends to go to seminary but first spend a year or two in mission service.

2008
Nicholas, from Ghana, Africa who was born into an animistic family who became followers of Islam. Nicholas became a Christian and has been active in mission work in Northern Ghana.
He is currently a MDIV student at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis.

2009
Rev. Berhanu, from Ethiopia who is currently completing his Ph.D. program in Missions at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, with an emphasis on sharing the Gospel with followers of Islam.

2010
Nicholas who received a scholarship in 2008 has again been chosen to receive a scholarship in 2010. He has had two years of formal training as an evangelist at Jonathan Ekong Memorial Seminary in Obot Idim, Nigeria, and graduated from the University of Ghana in May 2005. Nicholas plans are to return to Ghana to teach in the Ghana Seminary and to be an evangelist to the Muslim people of Ghana when he completes his studies a Concordia Seminary, St. Louis later this year.

LCDR Ryan R. who currently serves as a chaplain with the Coast Guard. His previous tours of duty included deployment to Iraq with the Marines in 2007, where he distinguished himself in duty by earning the Bronze Star with his unit. Ryan is currently in the Doctor of Ministry program at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.
